Former Sports CS Rashid Echesa's fortunes have taken a drastic turn, with the embattled politician now seeking forgiveness from his erstwhile mentor, Raila Odinga.
According to insiders, Echesa has been sending emissaries to Raila, ostensibly after realizing that his close association with Deputy President William Ruto was having a negative impact on his political career.
As reported on Kenyan Report on September 6, 2019, Echesa's move comes just days after he was arrested and spent a night in police custody in connection with the Matungu killings.
During his time in office, Echesa was the only Cabinet Secretary to be fired by President Uhuru Kenyatta, despite the fact that half of the President's cabinet was deemed incompetent.
His firing came weeks after he dared Raila to fire him, a move that was seen as a major faux pas.
Now, Echesa has declared his intention to ditch Ruto if that is what would bring him peace, stating, 'I f supporting you to be re-elected for the second time is the mistake that I did, I want you Mr President to find a place in your heart and forgive me. If supporting William Ruto could be the cause, I better be told. Supporting Ruto is not a matter of death but I need to find my peace.'
