Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko is set to name his deputy today, September 6, 2019, a move aimed at filling the one-year and eight-month vacuum left by Polycarp Igathe's resignation in January 2018.
Speaking at Ushuru House in Nairobi, Sonko said he has completed vetting all the candidates and has now settled on one. In past interviews, the Nairobi County chief had indicated that his choice for a deputy governor would be a woman.
While announcing his resignation from his DG post in January 2018, Igathe said it was 'difficult working with Sonko' whom he accused of frustrating him. Sonko's decision to pick Miguna Miguna as Igathe's replacement in May 2018 was rejected by the city county assembly.
On his end, Miguna said he could not work with Sonko, whom he accused of lacking integrity.
