Published on September 6, 2019, a 27-year-old man was arrested in Kileleshwa, Nairobi, with fake currencies worth Ksh.200 million.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) revealed that the man was found with fake U.S. dollars, Euros, and Pounds.
Police arrested the suspect on Thursday following a tip-off.
As part of a crackdown on fake money syndicates, police have intensified their efforts to combat the issue, particularly after the Central Bank of Kenya's directive on demonetisation.
CBK Governor Patrick Njoroge has urged Kenyans to be wary of fake notes by observing and learning the newly issued currency, which features distinct colours for each denomination and touch-bars on the side.
These features enable the visually-impaired to identify each note.
CBK has also launched a public awareness campaign to educate Kenyans on how to identify fake currency.
