Former Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe, a key figure in the country's struggle for independence, has died at the age of 95. He passed away two years after the army brought an end to his nearly four-decade rule.
On September 6, 2019, the world mourned the loss of a liberation leader and statesman who dedicated his life to the emancipation and empowerment of his people.

- Emmerson Mnangagwa, Zimbabwe's President, tweeted: "Cde Mugabe was an icon of liberation, a pan-Africanist who dedicated his life to the emancipation and empowerment of his people. His contribution to the history of our nation and continent will never be forgotten."
- South African President Cyril Ramaphosa said: "South Africans join the people and government of Zimbabwe in mourning the passing of a liberation fighter and champion of Africa's cause against colonialism."
- Julius Malema, leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters, said: "I'm saddened by the passing of our martyr & giant of the African Revolution (comrade) President Robert Mugabe. Let's continue to fight & protect his legacy."
- Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said: "We are deeply saddened by his passing and express sincere sympathies to the Zimbabwean people, government and to Mr Mugabe's family."
- Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta said: "In this moment of sorrow, my thoughts and prayers go out to his family, his relatives and the people of Zimbabwe who, for many years, he served with commitment and dedication."
