Exiled Kenyan lawyer and politician Miguna Miguna has confirmed his plan to return to Kenya after the August 9 general elections to witness the swearing-in of Deputy President William Ruto as the country's fifth president.
In a social media statement, the Canadian-based legal figure announced his intention to attend the official ceremony at Kasarani Stadium where Ruto and running mate Rigathi Gachagua will be sworn in. Miguna also revealed plans to visit ODM leader Raila Odinga's Nairobi residence to retrieve a political declaration he commissioned.
Ruto, campaigning under the Kenya Kwanza Alliance, faces opposition from Odinga's Azimio la Umoja coalition. The political landscape reflects deepening divisions ahead of the election.
Miguna has previously been deported from Kenya in 2018 following his involvement in Odinga's controversial 'people's president' swearing-in ceremony after the 2017 presidential election. His dual citizenship - holding both Kenyan and Canadian passports - has repeatedly complicated his attempts to return to the country.
Despite seeking legal and human rights advocacy support in the past, Miguna has faced persistent government restrictions on his entry. His upcoming return would mark a significant development in his ongoing political activism.
