The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has identified 241 candidates for potential disqualification from Kenya's August 9 elections due to corruption allegations, impeachment proceedings, and abuse of office charges. The list includes former governors, sitting MPs, and presidential aspirants.

Among those flagged are former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero, accused of mismanaging Sh68 million during his 2016-2022 tenure, and Embu Senatorial candidate Lilian Omollo, facing charges over losses at the National Youth Service (NYS). Garissa Governor Ali Korane is accused of embezzling Sh233.5 million meant for urban development projects in 2019. Former Kiambu Governor Mike Sonko, impeached in 2020, also appears on the list.

Several candidates, including Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru and Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua, have received IEBC clearance to campaign. Waiguru faces allegations of misusing Sh10.6 million in travel funds, though no charges have been filed. The IEBC is not legally bound to follow EACC recommendations but could block candidates via court orders.

The EACC's list includes Tana River Governor Dhadho Godhana, accused of procurement irregularities in a 2019 vehicle tender, and Tharaka Nithi Governor Muthomi Njuki, charged over a solid waste incinerator procurement scandal. Former minister Chris Obure, linked to the Anglo Leasing scandal, and athlete David Rudisha, under scrutiny for his 2020 police resignation, are also named.

Over 20,000 candidates underwent integrity checks, with 19 presidential and legislative aspirants facing legal challenges. A High Court panel is reviewing petitions that could determine the fate of several candidates. Chief Justice Martha Koome has emphasized that impeached officials should be barred from contesting.
