Manchester City midfielder Benjamin Mendy has been charged with an additional rape count, according to court documents released Wednesday. The new allegation involves a separate complainant, increasing the total number of charges against the 27-year-old to eight rapes, one sexual assault, and one attempted rape involving seven women.

Mendy previously entered not guilty pleas to earlier charges. The latest accusation, which has not yet been formally presented to him in court, emerged after reporting restrictions were lifted by Judge Steven Everett during a hearing at Chester Crown Court.

All alleged incidents occurred at Mendy's residence near Macclesfield, northwest England, between October 2018 and August 2022. He is scheduled to stand trial on July 25 alongside co-defendant Louis Saha Matturie, 40, who faces eight rape charges and four sexual assault allegations involving eight women.

Matturie's alleged offenses span from July 2012 to August 2022. Both defendants remain on bail, with court rules preventing identification of the alleged victims. Mendy, who joined Manchester City from Monaco in 2017, has made 75 appearances for the club despite injury-related setbacks. He was suspended by the team following initial police charges.

The French international, who earned 10 caps for his national team, last played for France in November 2019. His World Cup victory in 2018 came before his career trajectory shifted.
