Residents of Kerio Valley have intensified calls for government intervention following a deadly bandit attack that claimed three children and a herder in Marakwet sub-county's Tot region last Sunday. The incident, which also injured six others, has exacerbated longstanding security challenges in the area, prompting widespread disruption.
The violence has led to the closure of educational institutions across affected counties, with community members reporting persistent threats from armed groups. Local leaders emphasized the urgent need for federal action, specifically urging Inspector General Hillary Mutyambai and Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi to address the crisis.
"While the nation focuses on political campaigns, residents of Kerio Valley face daily tragedies. We gather not to discuss politics but to mourn loved ones lost to unaccountable violence. The government must restore peace before further lives are destroyed," residents stated during an interview on Wednesday.
The community highlighted that prolonged insecurity undermines national development, arguing that stability is essential for economic progress. With no immediate resolution in sight, demands for decisive security measures continue to grow.
