Manchester United has announced Paul Pogba will leave the club when his contract expires in June, concluding a career that included a 2016 transfer fee of £89 million (Sh13bn) and a 2018 World Cup triumph with France.

The 29-year-old midfielder, who joined from Juventus, will depart without the club recovering any of the initial investment. New manager Erik ten Hag's rebuild of the squad follows a period where United struggled to match the dominance they enjoyed under Alex Ferguson, who retired in 2013.

Italian media report Pogba has verbally agreed to return to Juventus, where he won four Serie A titles, though at a reduced salary. Paris Saint-Germain is also considering a move as they restructure around Kylian Mbappe.

Pogba's career at Old Trafford featured mixed results. He helped secure the 2017 League Cup and Europa League under Jose Mourinho but failed to replicate his 2018 World Cup form. His 2021 Europa League run included key goals, though he was ineffective in the 2021 final against Villarreal.

Injuries limited him to 27 appearances during the 2021-22 season, contributing to United's failure to challenge for major honors. Fans expressed frustration, with Pogba receiving boos during a April 2022 match against Norwich.

The club's statement highlighted his journey: "A boy that joined the Academy at 16 to make over 200 United appearances and lift the Youth Cup, along with two major pieces of silverware, is something that should be applauded and celebrated."
