Embu Governor Martin Wambora has been approved by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to contest the County’s Senate seat in the upcoming August elections. The two-term governor, representing the Umoja na Maendeleo Party, will compete against 18 other candidates, including his deputy David Kariuki, who secured clearance on Monday.
Wambora, who chairs the Council of Governors, expressed confidence in winning the seat, vowing to safeguard devolution and advocate for Embu’s share of devolved funds. "It is all systems go now. We will hit the ground running to promote our transformation agenda," he stated.
Other candidates cleared by the IEBC include former Youth Cabinet Secretary Lillian Mbogo of the Jubilee Party, Democratic Party’s Alexander Mundigi, and sitting Senator Njeru Ndwiga, who is running as an independent after losing UDA primaries. Mundigi, who finished second to Ndwiga in the 2017 election, remains optimistic about his prospects this time.
