Popular reggae DJ Kris Darlin has found himself at the center of controversy after announcing his intention to vie for the Kibra by-election seat.
As a result, NTV executives have terminated his contract as the host of the weekly Jam Rock reggae show, which airs on the station.
According to Nairobi News, NTV had no choice but to terminate Darlin's contract as the host of the show, citing the station's editorial policy.
Justus Tharao, NTV's Head of Production and Programming, confirmed the decision, stating that it was mutual between both parties.
“Kris has made his decision that he is getting into politics and as per the editorial policy, he left us with no choice but to terminate his contract as the host of the Jam Rock Reggae Show. This decision was mutual between both parties. We wish him well in his future endeavors. He will, however, host two more shows to bid the fans bye,” Tharao said.
Despite Darlin's departure, NTV's deal with his reggae unit Dohty Familly still holds.
It's worth noting that Darlin's decision to vie for the Kibra by-election seat has not been without controversy, with the DJ facing online backlash after a kneeling stunt he pulled during a political rally in an effort to win the favor of ODM party leader Raila Odinga.
He is among 10 aspirants who will be seeking the party's ticket on Saturday when ODM conducts its nominations.
