President Uhuru Kenyatta has praised the KCB Women’s Volleyball team for securing the African club championship title in Tunisia, marking a historic achievement for Kenyan sports.

The team, led by coach Japheth Munala, defeated Egyptian powerhouse Al Ahly 3-1 in the final, ending Kenya’s nine-year wait for the title. KCB last won the championship in 2006, while Kenya Prisons claimed it in 2013.

The victory came after a closely contested match where Kenya took an early 2-0 lead before Egypt won the third set. KCB regained momentum in the fourth set to clinch the win, overcoming a 2009 final loss to the same opponent.

Technical Director Paul Bitok expressed pride in the team’s perseverance, stating, "We have waited for this trophy for a long time. We want to continue being a professional club and hope to bring more players on board."

Bitok credited coach Japheth Munala and assistant David Muthui for their role in the success, while acknowledging individual accolades for players Mercy Moim, Sharon Chepchumba, and Wisa.

KCB advanced to the final after defeating Kenya Pipeline 3-0 in the semifinals. Meanwhile, Kenya Pipeline secured bronze by defeating Carthage 3-2 in a five-set thriller.
