Bill Gates and Paul Allen's early collaboration in the 1970s laid the foundation for what would become Microsoft, one of the world's most influential technology companies. Their initial efforts to develop a version of the BASIC programming language for MITS' Altair computers marked the start of a trajectory that would redefine the tech industry.

Kenyan industrialist Manu Chandaria, in a 2014 interview with the Harvard Business School, detailed the complexities of scaling a business from a small enterprise to a multi-million-dollar empire. His insights underscored the combination of strategic decisions, perseverance, and external factors that contribute to long-term success.

Social media has become a platform for both inspiration and skepticism regarding entrepreneurial origin stories. A 2022 Twitter exchange highlighted this divide, with users mocking exaggerated claims like "starting a poultry business with two feathers and one egg." Such narratives, while attention-grabbing, often omit the realities of risk, failure, and sustained effort required to build a business.

Kenyan entrepreneur Brad Osumo's journey with The Big Fish restaurant chain illustrates a more grounded path to success. Starting in 2018 with limited resources, Osumo leveraged social media to grow his business, culminating in high-profile clientele such as presidential candidate Raila Odinga and his running mate Martha Karua.

Safaricom's evolution from a department of Kenya Posts and Telecommunications Corporation in 1993 to the nation's leading telecommunications provider offers another example of gradual growth. While some success stories emphasize rapid growth, critics argue that the full narrative often excludes the challenges and setbacks that accompany expansion. The contrast between these perspectives raises questions about the authenticity of certain entrepreneurial accounts and the broader context of business development.
