Oudea-Castera initially asserted that Liverpool failed to manage its supporters, while French authorities also alleged 'massive' ticket fraud contributed to the disorder. The incident has raised concerns about Paris's ability to host major events, particularly as the city prepares for the 2024 Olympics and 2023 Rugby World Cup.
Werner's letter condemned the minister's 'irresponsible, unprofessional, and disrespectful' comments, emphasizing the physical and emotional harm suffered by fans. He demanded an apology and urged the French authorities and UEFA to ensure an independent, transparent investigation. 'I have received countless emails from supporters who were frightened to death and subjected to police harassment, pepper spray, and tear gas,' he added.
UEFA Launches Independent Inquiry ¶
UEFA announced it would conduct an 'independent report' into the final's issues, examining decision-making and responsibilities of all involved. The organization appointed Portuguese politician Tiago Brandao Rodrigues to lead the probe on a pro bono basis, with findings to inform potential actions.
Liverpool has also asked fans who attended the match to complete a feedback form to aid the investigation.
