The Kenyan government has confirmed a lineup of musicians set to perform at Wednesday's Madaraka Day celebrations, marking 59 years of self-rule.
Among the announced acts are Iyanii, Trio Mio, Femi One, and Kamba artist Mutulani Kasheshe, known for the song "Kungulu Kangala." Traditional dances, choral music, and contemporary genres will feature in the program, including the Gengetone style that debuted at Jamhuri Day 2021.
PPMC Director Dr. Donald Otoyo emphasized the event's focus on musical diversity, stating, "The curated performances will showcase inclusivity across Kenyan music genres." Young artists from the National Youth Talent Development Programme will also present works created during training workshops.
The ceremony, scheduled for June 1 at Uhuru Gardens, will be broadcast on KBC Channel One TV. Last year's Madaraka Day celebrations included Gengetone acts like Mbogi Genje, who performed at Uhuru Gardens.
