East African Breweries Plc (EABL) has completed the construction of a KSh1 billion microbrewery in Nairobi's Ruaraka district, positioning it as an innovation hub for alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. The facility, adjacent to the Tusker brewery, includes a microbrewery, tasting area, taproom, and flagship store.
The project, unveiled by Group CEO Jane Karuku, aligns with EABL's centenary celebrations commemorating its establishment in December 1922. The facility is set to open by December 2022, coinciding with the 100th anniversary of the company's first beer, Tusker.
The venue will serve as a brand experience center for Tusker, offering immersive interactions with Kenya's oldest alcohol producer. It will also function as a training ground for brewing innovation, supporting talent development across East Africa under Diageo's regional operations.
Speaking at the launch, Karuku stated, "This facility aims to redefine the region's beverage landscape by introducing craft and experimental beers. We target beer enthusiasts, millennials, and tourists with unique drinking experiences that highlight our century-long brewing expertise." The space will feature guided tastings, brewing demonstrations, and a beer garden with panoramic views of Ruaraka.
The project includes a flagship store collaborating with local artists for merchandise, reinforcing EABL's commitment to community engagement. Karuku emphasized the facility's potential to become a top Kenyan tourist attraction, offering a world-class brewery experience unmatched in East and Central Africa.
