Comedian Walter Mong'are Nyambane has secured official approval to run for Kenya's presidency under the Umoja Summit party, becoming the first candidate to receive a nomination certificate for the August 9 election.
A former Redykyulass comedian, Nyambane was granted his candidacy by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) after meeting all procedural requirements. Chairman Wafula Chebukati confirmed the decision, stating, "We have looked at all your documents and you have met all the requirements to vie for the presidency."
Nyambane previously held roles including Director of Youth Programs in the presidency and Cabinet Affairs Office, a position he left in February. He also served as Communications Director for the Nairobi County Government and Head of Radio at the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC).
His candidacy follows the IEBC's rejection of former presidential hopeful Wajackoyah due to insufficient signatures, highlighting the commission's strict adherence to electoral regulations.
