Rongai MP Raymond Moi received confirmation from the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and KANU Secretary General Nick Salat that he is eligible to run for re-election in the 2017 campaigns. The clearance resolved ongoing questions about his participation following reported health concerns, which Moi stated he has overcome. "Those who thought I would not appear on the ballot are mistaken. I am energized and ready to begin campaigning immediately," Moi said, emphasizing his campaign experience. He urged opponents to prioritize electoral integrity, stating, "The nation's interests must come before individual ambitions. Peace and unity should guide our actions."
KANU Secretary General Nick Salat also secured IEBC approval to contest the Bomet East parliamentary seat. Salat framed the upcoming polls as an opportunity for local voters to effect change, noting that "the current leadership's shortcomings demand a fresh approach." He called for peaceful campaigning, describing the election as "a single-day event" requiring collective responsibility.
Other cleared candidates included National Assembly Deputy Speaker Moses Cheboi, who will run as an independent in Kuresoi North after losing UDA party nominations. Cheboi expressed confidence in the IEBC's process, stating, "The people of Kuresoi will evaluate my service, not my party affiliation." Meanwhile, UDA and Jubilee Party contenders Joseph Tonui and Peter Cheruiyot were also cleared for the South Rift constituency.
The IEBC's clearance process extended to Senate aspirants Hillary Sigei (UDA) and Wesley Korir (ANC), as well as parliamentary candidates across multiple constituencies. Notable figures include former Naivasha MP John Mututho, Keroche CEO Tabitha Karanja, and former CAS Lawrence Karanja, who will contest on UDA and Jubilee Party tickets respectively.
Additional cleared candidates included Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri (UDA) and his rival Irene Njoki (Jubilee), Sotik MP Dominic Koskei (independent), and UDA-backed Ambassador Francis Sigei. In Konoin constituency, Brighton Yegon and Sammy Koech received approvals, while Bomet Central saw Richard Kilel (UDA) face challenger Collins Ngetich of CCM.
