Kenya's Ministry of Health has announced a Sh2.2 billion allocation to address Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) as part of its 2030 development goals.
Permanent Secretary Susan Mochache emphasized the importance of this funding in advancing Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and mitigating NTD impacts. She stated, "Our Universal Health Coverage is premised around unity health care," highlighting efforts to integrate noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) into community health strategies.
Mochache reiterated the ministry's commitment to collaborating with county governments to prioritize NTD control, particularly in endemic regions. The announcement coincided with the 10th anniversary of the END FUND initiative, which focuses on eliminating common NTDs globally.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) notes that NTDs affect over one billion people, causing severe health and economic consequences. These diseases impair development, increase maternal and child mortality, and hinder productivity.
