Published on September 5, 2019, a tragic incident occurred in Tabani Village, Tongaren Constituency, Bungoma County, where three people lost their lives and five others were hospitalized after consuming a concoction from a local herbalist.
The herbalist had administered the concoction to eight people, claiming it could cure various diseases. However, the three deceased individuals, including a woman and her mother-in-law, died within three minutes of consuming the concoction.
The remaining five people were rushed to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, with one patient in critical condition being taken to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
According to Judith Situma, the daughter of one of the deceased women, her mother had sought treatment from the herbalist for chest-related complications.
"Mum was my only remaining parent, and it is sad we lost her. I don’t know what happened because it was not the first time she had visited the herbalist. We are baffled and actually don’t know what to do next," said Ms. Situma.
