On Thursday, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) released the list of 10 candidates vying for the party's ticket in the upcoming Kibra by-election. The nomination exercise is set to take place on Saturday.
According to the party's National Elections Board (NEB), the exercise will be free, fair, and transparent. NEB Chairperson Senator Judith Pareno stated that the board had consulted with the Nairobi County Security team, which assured them of maximum security during the nominations.
The nomination exercise will be held in 24 centres, comprising 180 polling stations, gazetted by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC). Candidates who fail to adhere to the nomination rules, such as causing violence, will be disqualified.
Senator Pareno emphasized that every polling station will have a Presiding Officer and two clerks. Party members will be required to carry their national Identification Cards to participate in the exercise.
A Dispute Resolution Tribunal has been set up to handle any disputes that may arise during the exercise. The tribunal will sit on September 8 and make a determination in readiness for the winner's name to be presented to the IEBC the following day.
