The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has launched its online platform to enable 2021 KCSE examination candidates to select preferred university and college programs, following instructions from Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha.
Magoha confirmed that 144,466 students who achieved a C+ or higher in the 2021 KCSE are eligible for degree programs at 70 universities. He also urged these candidates to explore opportunities at TVET institutions and Teacher Training Colleges (TTCs), noting that 6,000 students opted for diplomas over degrees in 2021.
Approximately 671,415 students with grades ranging from C- to E in the 2021 KCSE qualify for diploma, craft certificate, and artisan certificate programs at 190 government-run institutions. Minimum entry requirements include a C- for diplomas, D for craft certificates, and E for artisan certificates.
KUCCPS will admit students to 32 primary TTCs for the first time, accepting both 2021 KCSE candidates and non-citizens. Past examinees who scored C or above between 2000 and 2021 are also eligible for these programs.
Three secondary TTCs offering diplomas—Kibabii, Lugari, and Kagumo—will operate under the Competency Based Curriculum system. Magoha encouraged students with C+ grades in technical subjects to apply, emphasizing that only portal applicants qualify for government sponsorship.
The cabinet secretary mandated strict adherence to timelines, ensuring all placements are finalized by June 2022. He also directed KUCCPS to open the portal in July 2022 for current KCSE candidates.
