Painting Interiors for a Living ¶
At 28, John Mbugua Kimani has found a way to make a living through interior painting, a skill he has honed over the last five years.
After working as a cement loader in a lorry for two years, Kimani felt the need to move on and explore other opportunities that would offer him flexibility. He discovered his passion for interior painting and has since been doing it full-time.
Kimani's work involves painting building rooms to give them the desired ambiance, as per his clients' taste. He relies on his network in the construction sector to get referrals and find work.
While the nature of his work can range from complex contracts to simple day jobs, Kimani has learned to navigate the ups and downs of the business. He has had his share of difficult clients, but he has also had those who appreciate his work and refer him to their friends.
Kimani's earnings can vary, but he makes up to Sh10,000 in a good week. He has also learned to subsist on lower earnings of Sh500 per day when demand for his services is low.
