Prosecutor Vincent Monda's request for more time to gather evidence in the tax evasion case against Humphrey Kariuki has hit a roadblock, with the court granting him an additional 21 days to present the case.

On September 5, 2019, Monda appeared before the Nairobi court and requested more time to present the case, citing the complexity of the evidence and the need for additional witness statements.

According to Monda, the prosecution has already presented some of the evidence, but more is needed to build a strong case against Kariuki and his co-accused.

Defense lawyers Kioko Kilukumi and Cecil Miller, who represent Kariuki, have stated that they have received 27 witness statements, but more are still pending.

The case against Kariuki and his co-accused, who are accused of evading taxes worth approximately KSh 41 billion, has been ongoing for several months.

Kariuki has denied any involvement in the tax evasion scheme, stating that he is not directly involved with his companies.
