The Jubilee Party has identified Sabina Chege and Peter Kenneth as potential vice-presidential nominees for Raila Odinga, according to internal party communications. The recommendation comes as Odinga navigates political challenges from Deputy William Ruto in the 2030 election cycle.
Sabina Chege's Political Background ¶
Sabina Chege, the former Murang’a Women Representative, has built a political career spanning two decades. Her early public visibility emerged through a 1990s Benga music collaboration with John De’ Mathew, featuring in the song Njata Yakwa (You Are My Star). She transitioned from media to politics after working as a radio presenter at Kameme FM (2002-2005) and later serving as Programs Controller at Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (2007).
Chege initially planned to run for governor in 2022 but withdrew from the race. Her political influence in Central Kenya has grown through local governance roles and media engagement.
Peter Kenneth's Political and Corporate Experience ¶
Peter Kenneth, a former banker, has held significant positions in sports governance and finance. He chaired the Kenya Football Federation in the 1990s and served on FIFA's executive committee. His corporate experience includes leadership roles at Africa Reinsurance Corporation and the Industrial Development Bank.
Politically, Kenneth represented Gatanga constituency from 2002 and held assistant minister roles in the ministries of co-operative development (2005) and planning (2008). He launched an unsuccessful presidential bid in 2013, becoming the first candidate to release a manifesto for that election. He also contested the 2017 Nairobi gubernatorial race.
Other potential running mate candidates include Peter Munya, Kalonzo Musyoka, Hassan Joho, and Charity Ngilu, according to party sources.
