As the 2019/20 Kenya Premier League season gets underway, Wazito FC finds itself with a record-breaking 20 new signings, despite releasing 18 players during the same transfer window.

With a 28-man strong squad, coach Fred Ambani is spoilt for choice when selecting a team for each match, but this abundance of talent comes with its own set of challenges.

Team chemistry is crucial, and Wazito's squad mostly comprised of inexperienced players may struggle to gel. The disadvantage of having an overloaded squad affects not only the coach but also the players, who may feel frustrated if they're not given a chance to play.

Long-serving Wazito players may understand the situation, but the new signings may not relate to the team's journey to the top tier league. However, the high numbers in the squad increase competition among players, which can lead to improved quality if the players embrace it.

As the season progresses, Wazito will need to find a balance between giving new players a chance to shine and building a cohesive team. Only time will tell if their massive squad overhaul will pay off.
