Twelve technology ventures from Kenya and Uganda have advanced to the long-list for the 2022 Africa Tech Awards, joining 33 other African start-ups across three innovation sectors. The competition, scheduled for June 15-18, 2022, in Paris, France, will recognize top performers in Financial Technology (Fintech), Health Tech, and Climate Tech categories.
Kenyan and Ugandan Start-ups in Key Categories ¶
The long-list includes nine Kenyan companies across all three categories. In Fintech, Duhqa, ImaliPay, Lipa Later, and Popote Pay are nominated. Health Tech entrants are Access Afya and Zuri Health, while Climate Tech participants include Agrotech Plus, iShamba Ltd, and Weee Centre. Uganda's eMaisha Pay, Primed E-Health, and Easy Matatu represent the nation in Fintech, Health Tech, and Climate Tech respectively.
Global Participation in Africa Tech Awards ¶
The competition features start-ups from 15 African countries, including Benin, Cameroon, Egypt, Gabon, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Morocco, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa, Tunisia, and Zambia. Viva Technology, the event's organizer, has partnered with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) to highlight innovative solutions addressing financial inclusion, healthcare access, and climate resilience.
Viva Tech, which began in 2016, has grown into Europe's largest tech event, fostering collaboration between entrepreneurs, investors, and industry leaders. The 2021 edition introduced a digital platform to expand global participation, connecting innovators worldwide.
