Cabinet Secretary for Education George Magoha detailed the 2021 KCSE examination outcomes and ongoing education sector initiatives, highlighting government efforts to enhance examination integrity and educational infrastructure from 2013 to 2022.

Examination Reforms and Financial Support

Magoha emphasized the government's investment of Ksh.27.7 billion since 2016 to cover KCPE and KCSE examination fees, ensuring financial accessibility for all candidates. In 2021, 441 cases of examination irregularities were reported, leading to result cancellations for involved candidates.

Infrastructure and Curriculum Advancements

Government spending included Ksh.5.5 billion for KCPE and Ksh.22 billion for KCSE examinations. Additional allocations funded free textbooks (Ksh.33.38 billion), sanitary towels (Ksh.3.017 billion since 2018), and classroom desks (Ksh.1.9 billion in 2020/2021). The Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) rollout involved training 229,000 teachers and constructing 6,470 classrooms by 2022.

Post-Pandemic Recovery and Future Plans

Magoha noted the 100% transition rate from primary to secondary education, achieved for 2019 and 2020 KCPE cohorts, with enrollment rising from 1.3 million in 2008 to 3.5 million in 2022. The government also expanded digital learning, equipping 94% of primary schools with devices, and launched the Edu-Afya medical insurance scheme in 2017 to support secondary learners.

Results Access and Sector Acknowledgments

Candidates were directed to collect results from examination centers or access them via SMS. Magoha acknowledged key partners, including the President and KNEC leadership, for their roles in ensuring credible examinations and reforms.
