Published on September 5, 2019, a former Member of Parliament for Kasarani, John Njoroge Chege, is currently facing charges related to a Ksh. 100, 000 bribery case.
According to court proceedings, Abdirahman Abdullahi alleged that he was asked to facilitate a payment of Ksh. 3.3 million from the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) kitty on June 4, 2013, and that the former MP demanded a bribe of Ksh. 100, 000 to facilitate the payment.
Abdullahi further alleged that the MP demanded an additional Ksh. 50, 000 to tip off CDF committee officials facilitating the payment.
Abdullahi reported the matter to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), which managed to trap the lawmaker and had him arrested at Continental House.
The former MP has denied the allegations, citing lack of evidence, and has pleaded to be acquitted.
Through his lawyer, Njoroge argued that the case was politically inspired.
It is worth noting that the former MP had previously denied the allegations, but the case was reopened after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) appealed the initial acquittal by Magistrate Peter Ndwiga.
