A court in South Africa has freed an Air Tanzania plane that was impounded over a debt of KSh 3.3 billion owed by a South African farmer.

The plane, an Airbus A220-300, was seized on August 23, 2019, after the farmer claimed the airline owed him the large sum.

However, the court has now ruled in favor of Air Tanzania, ordering the release of the plane and instructing the farmer to be paid the debt.

According to Air Tanzania, flights that were previously suspended will resume on September 6, 2019, with daily flights from Dar es Salaam to Johannesburg.

"We would like to inform our passengers and other stakeholders that we will resume our flights from Dar es Salaam to Johannesburg every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday starting September 6, 2019," the airline said in a statement.

"We would also like to thank our passengers and other stakeholders for their cooperation and understanding during this period," the statement added.
