Shabana FC's NSL Title Hopes Hinge on Resolving Internal Issues

Shabana FC's National Super League title aspirations are threatened by internal conflicts and financial constraints, which may hinder their promotion to the Kenya Premier League.

Published on September 4, 2019, the team's loss to Nairobi City Stars in their 2019/20 season opener is a stark reminder of the challenges they face.

The team's poor preseason, financial constraints, and the massive exit of players, many of whom were suspended for indiscipline, have left them struggling to find their footing.

Club chairman Jared Niverton has maintained that he is sustaining the club from his pockets, but fans feel that community ownership could be the solution to their financial woes.

The Kisii county government has pledged to support the club, but only if they meet constitutional requirements, including producing an original certificate of registration and the books of account.

Club assistant coach Vincent Nyaberi attributed their 2-0 loss to Nairobi City Stars to poor planning, citing the team's late travel to Nairobi and the resulting fatigue.

He urged the management to put their act together if they are to mount a serious NSL title challenge.

Other NSL matchday 1 results include Ushuru 1-0 St. Joseph's Youth, Northern Wanderers 0-8 Nairobi Stima, Muranga Seal 1-0 Kibera Black Stars, Bidco United 3-0 Mt. Kenya United, FC Talanta 3-1 Vihiga Bullets, Vihiga United 3-1 Migori Youth, and Coast Stima 2-0 Fortune Sacco.
