Manchester United's recent 1-1 draw against Southampton has left fans and pundits alike questioning the team's chances of competing for the title in the near future.

Former midfielder Paul Scholes, a Red Devils legend, has weighed in on the issue, stating that the team is about two years away from challenging for the title.

Speaking to Premier League Productions, Scholes expressed his disappointment with the team's performance, particularly with the senior players.

'I wasn't disappointed with the young players, it was more the experienced players,' Scholes said.

He specifically mentioned Paul Pogba, Ashley Young, and Nemanja Matic, stating that they constantly gave the ball away and failed to set a good example for the younger players.

'These are the people that young players are looking up to, the examples you're looking at,' Scholes emphasized.

With Manchester United currently eighth on the EPL log with five points after four games in the ongoing 2019-20 league season, Scholes' comments may come as a blow to fans who were hoping for a strong season.

However, it's worth noting that Scholes believes that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men will need time to rebuild and strengthen the team before they can compete for the title.

'I think you almost have to write United off for the next two years, this team, until Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has cleared everything he wants out, has four or five transfer windows,' Scholes declared.
