The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has scheduled a four-day closure of Nyeri Road in Nairobi's Kileleshwa neighborhood starting Thursday, March 31, to facilitate road rehabilitation and culvert installation near Kenton Primary School.
A statement obtained by Kenyans.co.ke revealed the road will remain closed until Sunday, April 3, with traffic disruptions expected from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. daily. KURA urged motorists to use alternative routes and apologized for any inconvenience caused by the project.
"We apologize for any inconveniences that may be caused as we endeavor to enhance urban mobility," the authority stated. The closure aligns with the Nairobi Metropolitan Services' (NMS) broader initiative to improve road infrastructure, including the Central Business District (CBD) and surrounding areas.
In July 2021, NMS Director General Mohammed Badi outlined plans to prioritize major city roads before addressing estate connections. "Every road connecting to estates will be done. We do not want to move outside the city center without having every road re-carpeted," he said, emphasizing efforts to ease traffic congestion.
Construction equipment was observed in the CBD in July 2021 as part of the ongoing infrastructure upgrades. The latest project follows similar roadworks documented in previous months.
