On September 4, 2019, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) sent a formal request to Kenya Airways for information and documentation to aid in a probe into the airline's previous mismanagement.

The probe, which focuses on the procurement of services for the maintenance, repair, and overhaul of aircraft engines, is part of Kenya Airways' overall strategy to ensure transparency and integrity in all its procurement processes and operations.

According to a statement by Kenya Airways' corporate communications, the airline welcomes the investigations and is engaging with the DCI team to provide necessary support and information.

However, the details of the investigations are not publicly available, making it difficult to determine which firms and individuals are being targeted.

Reports have emerged that former KQ chief executive Titus Naikuni was also under probe over Sh100 billion lost between 2003 and 2014, as well as the financial period between 2017/8 and 2018/9.

DCI has stated that the probe will review everything from procurement and budget plans to tender documents for potential bidders.

Kenya Airways has since withdrawn its proposal to run Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, citing a change in strategy.
