On September 2, 2019, a devastating family tragedy unfolded in Elkmont, Alabama.
A 14-year-old boy, who has not been named, shot and killed all five members of his family before calling the police to confess the crime.
Three of the victims were found dead in their home, while two others succumbed to their gunshot wounds after being airlifted to a local hospital.
According to Limestone County Sheriff, the 14-year-old caller was interviewed and confessed to shooting his family members in the residence.
He also revealed that he had discarded the 9mm handgun used in the killings nearby.
The boy was taken into custody, but authorities have yet to disclose a possible motive behind the killings.
Gun violence remains a pressing concern in the US, with statistics showing that over 36,000 people die from gun-related incidents annually, with at least a third of these cases being homicides.
