On Tuesday, September 3, 2019, police in Athi River engaged a group of suspected robbers in a shootout at Mlolongo Phase 3, resulting in the deaths of two suspects.
According to Athi River sub-county police boss Samuel Mukuusi, the suspects had attempted to escape on a motorbike after being spotted by police officers who gave a chase and caught up with them at Mlolongo Phase 3.
“None of them had identification documents, but residents have identified one of the slain suspects as a notorious thug who has been part of a series of armed robberies in Athi River Township and its environs,” said Mukuusi.
The bodies of the slain suspects have been removed to the City Mortuary, and a manhunt for the third suspect who escaped has been intensified.
