On Monday, Zachary Mwangi Kariuki, a suspected Kenyan serial conman, appeared before Nairobi Senior Principal Magistrate Bernard Ochoyi, citing depression as the reason for skipping court sessions.
According to court records, Kariuki had been hospitalized since April 2019, but detectives arrested him on Friday in Limuru town following a warrant of arrest issued by Kibra law courts.
As the court proceedings unfolded, Kariuki revealed that he had been a hypertensive patient and was also struggling with depression.
However, the court was not convinced by his explanation and directed the accused to be detained at Pangani Police Station for 14 days.
The case will be mentioned on September 16th, when Kariuki will be required to provide evidence showing that he was admitted to hospital.
