September 3, 2019, marked a significant day for Cristiano Ronaldo as he claimed his 10th Portuguese Player of the Year award.
The 34-year-old Juventus forward has dominated the annual awards night in Portugal, winning the prize every year since 2007, except in 2010 and 2014.
At the Carlos Lopes Pavilion in Lisbon, Ronaldo paid tribute to his childhood club, Sporting Lisbon, during his acceptance speech.
"This world is so fast, with the social media, the press, it's been wild," Ronaldo recalled.
"It's been an extremely complicated year on a personal level. Don't let anyone pull you down," he added.
"I can't help but mention that Sporting deserves a little prize. Next time," Ronaldo said, hinting at his loyalty to his childhood club.
Benfica was the big winner of the night, with their men's and women's teams claiming team of the year awards.
Bruno Lage, Benfica's manager, also received the manager of the year prize.
