On the opening day of the 2019-20 National Super League season, Talanta FC made a statement with a 3-1 win over Vihiga Bullets at Camp Toyoyo on February 4, 2019.

Anthony Oginga, a new signing, scored twice on his debut, while Brian Juma added a third goal to seal Abdallah Juma's first win of the season.

Abdallah Juma, who is aiming to take Talanta FC to the premier league for the first time, expressed his expectations for the team's performance in the upcoming matches.

"This is a new season, and we start afresh looking to improve from our last season's performance," Juma said in an interview with Standard Sports.

He emphasized the importance of consistency and maintaining a winning tempo throughout the season.

"Last season, we were not consistent with our results, and that has to change this year. We need to keep working hard and maintain the tempo," Juma said.

At the same stadium, Nairobi Stima also made a strong start, defeating Northern Wanderers 8-0 in a one-sided match.

Stima's head coach, Leonard Odipo, is determined to rectify the team's past mistakes and secure a spot in the premier league.

"Last season was painful for the team to lose out on the automatic qualification spot because of goals. This year, we are ready to make sure that does not happen again because we won many matches that we are aiming to attain again this year," Odipo said.
