On September 2, 2019, Ann Githinji Wambui, a woman accused of threatening her husband, appeared in a Malindi court to face charges.

Wambui was charged alongside a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldier, James Wachira, who is now her lover. Both denied the allegations.

According to the prosecution, Wambui allegedly left her husband, Joseph Kiragu Muchai, in November 2018 and eloped with Wachira.

Chief Magistrate William Chepseba heard that on diverse dates between November 17 and 26, 2018, in Barani, Wambui allegedly made threatening statements against Muchai.

She is accused of saying, 'Wathie nambere Kurumiririra mutumia uyu ringi, tugukuhihinya heke icio ciaku kana tokuohe maica, ni either utigane nake kana ukue tuku make sure nitwakunina biu, na ninjuui kuria uikaraga, na ngari iria uthiaga nayo na nyumba yaku ya Thika.'

This translates to, 'If you continue following up on this woman any further we will castrate you or have you jailed for life. It is either you leave her alone or die. We will make sure we finish you completely, we know where you stay and the vehicle you drive and your house at Thika.'

Wambui was also charged with stealing Ksh. 712,000 from Muchai on November 26, 2018, as well as cruelty and neglect of a child.

She is accused of abandoning her three children on November 26, 2018, at her husband's home.

The case will be mentioned on September 16, 2019, and the hearing on December 11, 2019.
