Former Tottenham Hotspur right-back Kieran Trippier has spoken out against the club's management, claiming they did not provide him with clear information about their intentions to sell him.
Trippier, 28, joined Atletico Madrid from Spurs in July for a reported Sh2.7 billion, and has since expressed his satisfaction with the move, describing it as a 'step up'.
However, the England international revealed that he did not want to leave Tottenham, but felt he had no choice due to the lack of communication from the club's management.
Trippier stated: 'I spoke to the manager about his plans and I didn’t get a ‘yes’ and I didn’t get a ‘no’ – so you get the impression.'
He added that he tried to speak to the chairman, but did not receive a clear answer, leaving him with the impression that the club wanted to sell him.
Trippier, who enjoyed an outstanding World Cup for England in 2018 but struggled with injuries last season, believes that Tottenham may regret selling him, saying: 'Tottenham got rid of me at the wrong time, but I struggled with injuries.'
He has since returned to the England national team following his move to Spain, and is set to feature in this month's European Qualifiers.
