Published on September 3, 2019, Boniface Mwangi, a renowned human rights activist and photojournalist, has sounded a warning to the people of Kibra ahead of the forthcoming by-election.
Mwangi, who contested for the Starehe parliamentary seat in 2017 and lost, drew parallels between Kibra and other constituencies that have elected leaders he deemed unfit for office.
He specifically mentioned Starehe and Langata as examples of constituencies that have suffered due to poor leadership.
Following the Jubilee Party's nomination of McDonald Mariga as their candidate for the Kibra parliamentary seat, Mwangi took to social media to express his concerns about Mariga's suitability for the position.
“Kibra people, learn from Starehe and Langata. They decided to elect socialites and they’re now suffering. Mariga’s contribution to the Kenyan youth was to get them addicted to gambling. He has billboards across Kenya promoting betting. Don’t send such a person to parliament. Be wise,” Mwangi tweeted.
