On Monday, September 2, 2019, Kiambu chief magistrate Priscilla Gichohi ordered police to detain Sarah Wairimu, the estranged wife of missing Dutch billionaire Tob Cohen, for 12 days as investigations continue.
The detention order was made as the court heard that preliminary investigations had established that Wairimu coached some witnesses to give false testimony on Cohen's movement.
However, the witnesses later recanted their statements and gave true accounts. The investigators also established that Wairimu had issued threats to Cohen, which made him apprehensive.
According to the magistrate, it is highly probable that Cohen was kidnapped from his residence and taken by Wairimu and her associates to an unknown place, where he was likely murdered.
The magistrate also revealed that Wairimu was reported to have pushed Cohen off a flight of stairs on July 8, causing him to fall and sustain injuries.
Cohen is said to have reported the matter to Parklands Police Station and later sought treatment at MP Shah Hospital in Nairobi.
The case will be mentioned on September 16, 2019.
