Joe Mwangi, Ex-Manager of Child Star Wendy Waeni, Arrested by DCI ¶
On Monday, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) arrested Joe Mwangi, the embattled former manager of child star Wendy Waeni, in connection with forgery and issuing threats to Wendy's mother, Magdalene Mbele.
According to the DCI, Mwangi will be presented in court once the necessary police process is complete.
On Friday, Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti issued a warrant of arrest for Mwangi in connection with the forgery of a letter purporting to be from a Cabinet Secretary threatening Magdalene Mbele.
Wendy Waeni, a Kenyan contortionist, has performed for audiences around the world, including Presidents Uhuru Kenyatta and Paul Kagame. However, she has not received a single penny from her performances across the globe for the last five years.
Wendy's mother, Magdalene Mbele, has accused Mwangi of controlling her daughter's social media accounts and only giving her a little share of the money from the large sums he was usually given by various politicians and media personalities to aid in developing and promoting her daughter.
Magdalene Mbele has also alleged that Mwangi demanded an unnecessarily large share of money from an amount Rwandan President Paul Kagame gave her on behalf of her daughter in 2016.
She further accused Mwangi of confiscating and denying Wendy access to her phone and only returning it after the 14-year-old's revelation on a live TV interview.
