On September 2, 2019, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) arrested Joe Mwangi, a manager with a questionable reputation, over allegations of exploiting and threatening Wendy Waeni.

According to the DCI, Mwangi was taken into custody on Monday, September 2, and is expected to appear in court once the police investigation is complete.

Waeni, a teenager, had accused Mwangi of misusing her earnings from various performances, and had even gone on Citizen TV to share her story of how she and her mother had been struggling to make ends meet despite her receiving payments.

However, Mwangi had dismissed the allegations, claiming that Waeni's mother was the one who had been misusing her daughter's earnings.

The DCI had earlier issued a call for anyone with information on Mwangi's whereabouts to report to their offices in Nairobi.
