Published on September 2, 2019, a police officer lost his life in a tragic accident at Africa Spirits Limited in Thika, a multi-million shilling firm owned by billionaire Humphrey Kariuki.

The officer, an Administration Police officer, fell from a staircase on the second floor of the building while on duty.

Thika Deputy Sub-County Commander Bernard Oyoo stated that the incident is being treated as an accident, but the exact cause of the officer's death will be determined after a postmortem examination.

"It was just an accident like any other," Oyoo told Capital News.

Africa Spirits Limited has been in the spotlight in recent months following allegations of tax evasion amounting to Sh41 billion, which Humphrey Kariuki denies.
