Published on September 2, 2019, a bizarre divorce case in the UAE has left many stunned. A woman is seeking to end her marriage after just one year, claiming her husband's excessive love and affection have become unbearable.
The woman, who has not been named, recently appeared before a Shariah court in Fujairah, seeking a permanent separation from her husband. According to reports, she felt suffocated by his constant displays of affection and the lack of arguments in their relationship.
‘He never yelled at me or turned me down,’ she reportedly told the court. ‘I was choked by extreme love and affection. He even helped me clean the house.’
Her husband, however, seemed oblivious to her concerns. He appeared in court, insisting that he had done nothing wrong and that his sole goal was to be a ‘perfect and kind husband’.
He even went so far as to admit that he had gone to great lengths to please his wife, including going on a diet and exercising after she complained about his weight. He even suffered a leg fracture as a result of his efforts.
Despite his efforts, the court has adjourned the case to give the couple a chance to reconcile. It remains to be seen whether the woman will reconsider her decision to divorce her husband.
