On September 1, 2019, Ford Kenya nominated Khamisi Butichi as its candidate for the Kibra by-election, following the death of Ken Okoth.

Butichi, a former JKUAT lecturer and ANC member, had previously attempted to run for the Ikolomani constituency in 2017.

However, his nomination was short-lived, as he left ANC to join Ford Kenya, citing his right to leave and join another party.

Butichi will now face off against candidates from ODM and Jubilee, which have yet to officially nominate their candidates.

ANC has also nominated Eliud Owalo as its candidate for the Kibra by-election.

Wetangula had previously claimed that Ford Kenya had the ability to win the Kibra seat, but his party's nomination of Butichi has been met with mixed reactions from Kenyans on social media.

"I want to inform you that I have resigned from ANC, citing my right to leave and join another party," Butichi wrote on Twitter.

"I therefore request that my name be removed from the ANC membership list," he added.
