On September 1, 2019, Kirinyaga County Governor Anne Waiguru made headlines by failing to attend a Church fundraising event at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Kirinyaga County, which was being spearheaded by Deputy President William Ruto.
According to Kirinyaga Central Member of Parliament John Wambugu, Governor Waiguru never took the initiative to inform anyone about her whereabouts and never sent an apology for skipping the event.
Deputy President Ruto, who was in Kirinyaga County to attend the event, spoke to the gathering, saying that Jubilee Party will not be intimidated to stop their agenda for political heckling.
He blamed Orange Democratic (ODM) leader Raila Odinga for pushing the referendum bid and for judging his church donations, adding that people know what they want and should not be intimidated or blackmailed by anyone about the referendum bid.
Deputy President Ruto was accompanied by 20 members of Parliament supporting Jubilee Party, who dismissed the referendum bid, claiming that the people behind the constitution change have nothing to offer to Kenyans.
Deputy President Ruto also dismissed allegations that the Jubilee party is divided into two teams currently referred to as ‘Kieleweke and Tanga Tanga’.
