Kenya's national women's volleyball team, Malkia Strikers, is set to make a statement at the 2023 Volleyball World Cup in Japan, having recently clinched gold at the Africa Games in Morocco.
Under the guidance of head coach Paul Bitok, the team has shown remarkable improvement, and their victory at the Africa Games is a testament to their hard work and dedication.
Bitok, who was appointed just three months ago, has already made a significant impact, and his team is now looking to replicate their success at the World Cup, which will take place from September 14 to 29.
“Indeed, the results from the Africa Games have been a result of team effort. We hope to replicate this all through other future tournaments starting at the World Cup,” Bitok said.
The team's victory at the Africa Games was a significant milestone, as they successfully defended their title, which they last won in 2015 at the games in Brazzaville, Congo.
“A huge win for Kenya. I highly commend the team for their comeback in the second set. That was a great show of mental composure and strength from the team. Playing against an opponent twice is not easy, especially if your second meeting is at the final stage,” said Bitok.
Kenya's Sports Cabinet Secretary, Amina Mohamed, has pledged to support the team in their future competitions, praising their impressive win in Morocco.
“When Kenya women’s team ‘Malkia Strikers’ take to the pitch, it is impossible to ignore their incredible coordination,” she said.
